How to connect your iCloud (Apple) Calendar to your Doodle account

Connecting your iCloud (Apple) Calendar to your Doodle account requires an 'app-specific password'. We will guide you on how to create the app-specific password and how to connect your iCloud calendar to your Doodle account.

How to connect your iCloud Calendar to your Doodle account

Connecting your iCloud Calendar is a two-part process or retrieving your app-specific password from Apple and using the app-specific password to complete the calendar connection from Doodle.

To begin, we recommend you open two browser tabs to complete the connection:

We recommend establishing the connection between your iCloud (Apple) Calendar and Doodle on a desktop device since you will need to move between different applications to complete the process. Once the calendar is connected, the connection will be reflected on both the desktop and mobile Doodle experience.

Retrieve your app-specific password from Apple

  1. Log into your Apple account

  2. Under 'Sign-in and Security', turn on two-factor authentication if you haven't done so already

  3. Under 'App-Specific Passwords', select 'Generate an app-specific password'

  4. Name the app-specific password (for example, 'Doodle')

  5. Click 'Create'

  6. Copy the app-specific password that is presented to you

Connect your iCloud calendar to Doodle

  1. Click 'Connected calendars' on the left side menu

  2. Click 'Connect' underneath the iCloud Calendar option

  3. Enter your iCloud email address

  4. Enter the app-specific password generated from your Apple account

  5. Click 'Connect'

Your iCloud Calendar is now connected to Doodle.

Why do I need an app-specific password?

Calendaring apps made by developers other than Apple, such as Doodle, ask you to sign in to your Apple Account so that it can access your calendar that is stored on iCloud. To ensure the security of your Apple ID password, Doodle requires users to create an app-specific password to use only with Doodle.

Additionally, please note that Apple requires two-factor authentication in addition to an app-specific password to connect with third-party applications such as Doodle.

Good to know:

  • The availability of shared calendars that were added via the share option on iCloud will also be read and reflected in Doodle.

  • The availability of shared calendars that were added through URL on iCloud will be not read and reflected in Doodle.

  • Shared calendars from other providers such as Google or Microsoft will not be read and reflected when you add your iCloud Calendar to your Doodle account. Read here how to connect a Google or Office 365 calendar.

Connecting someone else's calendar to your Doodle account

It is common for personal assistants, executive assistants, secretaries and more to ask if it is possible to connect someone else's calendar to their Doodle account. The answer is yes, it is possible to connect someone else's calendar to your Doodle account.

If you are the administrator of your Doodle account and you wish to manage someone else's calendar with your Doodle account, you must first receive their consent to integrate their calendar with your Doodle account. You will also either need to possess their login credentials with their consent or request their assistance with finalizing the integration as it requires their username and password for the associate calendar account. As long as you have met both of these criteria, you may proceed with integrating someone else's calendar with your Doodle account.

All emails will still be sent to the owner of the Doodle account, and any booked event will be automatically applied to the connected calendar.

Finally, please note that corrective actions can be taken including but not limited to the suspension or termination of your Doodle account if it is determined that a calendar was integrated with your Doodle account with the calendar owner's prior consent.
