Connecting your iCloud (Apple) Calendar to your Doodle account requires an 'app-specific password'. In this article, we will guide you on how to create the app-specific password and how to connect your iCloud calendar to your Doodle account.
How to connect your iCloud Calendar to your Doodle account
Connecting your iCloud Calendar is a two-part process or retrieving your app-specific password from Apple and using the app-specific password to complete the calendar connection from Doodle.
To begin, we recommend you open two browser tabs to complete the connection:
Tab #1: your Apple account page
Tab #2: your Doodle account settings
We recommend establishing the connection between your iCloud (Apple) Calendar and Doodle on a desktop device since you will need to move between different applications to complete the process. Once the calendar is connected, the connection will be reflected on both the desktop and mobile Doodle experience.
Retrieve your app-specific password from Apple
Log into your Apple account
Under 'Sign-in and Security', turn on two-factor authentication if you haven't done so already
Under 'App-Specific Passwords', select 'Generate an app-specific password'
Name the app-specific password (for example, 'Doodle')
Click 'Create'
Copy the app-specific password that is presented to you
Connect your iCloud calendar to Doodle
Go to your Doodle account settings
Click 'Connected calendars' on the left side menu
Click 'Connect' underneath the iCloud Calendar option
Enter your iCloud email address
Enter the app-specific password generated from your Apple account
Click 'Connect'
Your iCloud Calendar is now connected to Doodle.
Why do I need an app-specific password?
Calendaring apps made by developers other than Apple, such as Doodle, ask you to sign in to your Apple Account so that it can access your calendar that is stored on iCloud. To ensure the security of your Apple ID password, Doodle requires users to create an app-specific password to use only with Doodle.
Additionally, please note that Apple requires two-factor authentication in addition to an app-specific password to connect with third-party applications such as Doodle.
Good to know:
The availability of shared calendars that were added via the share option on iCloud will also be read and reflected in Doodle.
The availability of shared calendars that were added through URL on iCloud will be not read and reflected in Doodle.
Shared calendars from other providers such as Google or Microsoft will not be read and reflected when you add your iCloud Calendar to your Doodle account. Read here how to connect a Google or Office 365 calendar.
